Dairy Foods magazine recently named Hilmar Ingredients as its 2009 Exporter of the Year, an award sponsored by the U.S. Dairy Export Council. The company is the whey protein and lactose division of the Hilmar Cheese Company, which was founded in 1984 by 12 Central Valley dairy families.
Hilmar's on-going export sales success, leadership in driving global dairy demand, high-quality U.S.-produced products and commitment to customer service and long-term investment in international markets were some of the reasons cited for their win.
The company shipped its first container of product from the Port of Oakland to Asia in 1994. Today, Hilmar Ingredients' whey protein and lactose products are exported to more than 40 countries across all continents.
Lactose and whey protein are used in many food products, including chocolate and baked goods. To learn more about the cheesemaking process, visit http://realcaliforniamilk.com/rcc.
