Congratulations to the Winners of the Commercial Cheese Competition of the California State Fair
California's talented cheese makers continue to impress judges at the annual Commercial Cheese Competition of the California State Fair. The competition took place in May and was judged by:
- Dr. Moshe Rosenberg, Professor and Specialist, Department of Food Science and Technology, UC Davis
- Thalassa Skinner, Founder of Culture
- Juliana Uruburu, Cheese Department Manager, Pasta Shop (Oakland) and member of the American Cheese Society
- Kiri Fisher, Cheese Aficionado
- Mary Dedrick, Dedrick's Main Street Cheese
- Les Wood, California Department of Food and Agriculture
- Teri Mullen, California Department of Food and Agriculture
Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company impressed the judges at the 2010 Commercial Cheese Competition of the California State Fair, taking home top honors with the Best of Show award for its Original Blue in the Semi-Soft Cheese category.
Marin French Cheese Company of Petaluma received notoriety for taking home the most awards of the competition, winning one Gold, five Silver, and 13 Bronze Medals.
"The Best of Show and Best of Division cheeses really stood out among the competition, pushing the envelope of quality and innovation in the California cheese industry," says judge Les Wood, California Department of Food and Agriculture. "Californians should be very proud of these top cheeses."
The Best of Show and Best of Division winners will be displayed at the California State Fair, which takes place July 14 through August 1.
Categories included: Best Cottage Cheese, Best Cultured Cheese, Best Soft Cheese, Best Semi-Soft Cheese, Best Semi-Hard Cheese, and Best Hard Cheese.
