Ferreira & Sons Dairy Farm has been run by Frank Ferreira’s family for 32 years – and he’s hoping for at least another 32 with his own children.
Frank and his father, Ramiro, maintain a herd of about 700 Holstein dairy cows at their Red Bluff, CA dairy, with a shared passion for quality. “As a California dairy farmer, I feel a responsibility to provide a quality product,” says Frank. “California has set standards that are higher than any other state which makes us strive to produce a top quality, nutritious product for growing families.”
For Frank, providing the best product starts with an efficient, clean dairy. When it comes to animal care and sustainability, these are not just buzzwords to Frank, but a way of life. Making sure his cows’ comfort needs are met with free stalls and cooling systems for the hot summer months and employing key practices to reduce their carbon footprint are his main priorities.
Growing up on the dairy, Frank was a natural for this style of life. He relished any chance to work with the animals and spent much of his time exploring the farm. “As a kid, you have room to run and play instead of being cooped up in town,” says Frank. As an adult, he still feels the same, though admits, when working with your father “life is always interesting.” Frank has continued this family tradition with his three young children.
His family, of course, loves all dairy foods and lives by one simple rule – Real California Cheese makes everything taste better.
