In April, Castelanelli Dairy in Lodi, California, received a visit from European energy experts. According to the town's local paper, The Record, five Russian visitors took the tour to learn more about best practices in alternative energy sources that the delegates could potentially use in underdeveloped areas of Eastern Russia.
The Castelanelli Bros. Dairy and Vineyards operate a methane digester, which converts methane from their 1,600-cow herd into energy. The visiting delegates say that using a methane digester like this one could help European dairy farmers in remote areas where no energy is available.
California's dairy industry continues to be a leader in sustainability.
